Breath of fresh air- spring sessions are here!

Writer: Erika StewartErika Stewart

I got thinking the other day when I was in that midway sleep state- where you're not sure if you're sleeping or awake, you could keep napping- because the kid is still snoozing but your mind starts sending you a download- about memories. How does one remember things, what do I remember just from relying on my brain. I was a little shocked as someone who remembers a LOT of things that most of those are stemmed from a launchpoint; a scent, a sound, an old toy or t-shirt, and finally- the one that fires all my braincells and takes me right to that spot- photographs.

There are so many photographs I remember that transport me, and make me feel like I know "that" memory- even the ones I've never been a part of, like the photograph of my grandparents in Arizona next to the cacti- my grandma with her chunky glasses, pinned back brown hair and blue jeans. That photo was taken by my grandpa- by the camera I have in my basement packed away with all my other film cameras. I never was on that trip, but I can imagine myself in my grandparent's home with their air conditioner on at a chilling 65 degrees and the slight scent of cigarette smoke in the air (despite the efforts of their air scrubber. It was the 90's afterall. Grandparents smoked inside all the time). Or the photo of me on my 4th birthday about to blow out the candles. I remember my mom's friend's daughter Christy was there. She was a few years older than me and I remember thinking she was the coolest. Somehow I remember it rained in the afternoon and there was a rainbow outside that day.

When I get thinking about it, it makes me feel absolutely amazing that I get to be the time stamper for you and your family, taking your photographs and giving them to you so your family can (beautifully) channel back to a specific time and place. I guess you could say i'm infatuated with photographs, which I guess is a great thing I am a photographer and took that title to heart earning my bachelor's degree in Photography.

So I get really excited when it comes to this time of year- where moms (+ dads) get to be celebrated, Easter is happening and kids are outdoors on Easter egg hunts, and the plants start to pop up again. It's a promise of warmer, longer days and so much fresh air you can barely keep your eyes open at the end of the night. This year is no exception on the excitement. As my calendar continually gets booked up to really bottle up all those memories, I love offering Spring Mini's to get the New Year photos going- Absolutely perfect to use for Easter, gifting mom a session, or just because you want them and that's that. This year we're having them indoors again in my home studio. Lucky for you, we have a really great floral couch to use, along with vases and vases of babys breath, pillows, a canvas tent, record player, and alll the things to bring in joy and make it one of those time stamps your family can revisit every time you stumble upon your photos.

The Spring sessions will be held in St Clair Shores on April 12th 2025, starting at 10am. This session, like all our others, give you unlimited digital edits back. You have available a consult to help with outfit picking (if needed) and where you can ask any questions about the space and/or what props to bring with you (if any. I mean seriously, we have so many here, it's kind of unnecessary). As always, we will shoot those formal photos for you, and we love to incorporate play, movement, and freedom to have the photos feel and look a little more authentic.
